Main Purpose of role:

To design & develop distinctive, innovative ranges in line with Mothercare strategy resulting in increased sales, margin, profits and market share

Key Accountabilities

CUSTOMER; Meeting the needs and aspirations of customers globally - Work closely with designers, buyers, & merchandisers to understand customer needs and expectations and incorporate into ranges & designs. - Attend trade fairs with design team, reporting back on new directions, developments & innovations. - Monitor & evaluate competitors & sources of inspiration in the industry & wider markets. - Visit suppliers & overseas offices to identify development opportunities - With Design Manager produce trend and colour information for dept in line with Company, Divisional & Dept strategy

PROCESS; Working effectively & efficiently to contribute to the profitability of the business - Critical path delivery. Work closely with product developers and suppliers to make sure that samples processed in time to meet critical path - Work closely with buying & merchandising to build the range and understand range requirements - Work closely with technical team to ensure Mothercare quality & safety standards are met, and to help expedite sample development. - Work on colour palette content, layout and palette distribution - Design and supervise production of samples via Sourcing Division - Ensure briefing info for full service suppliers enables effective sample development - Produce design specs suitable for technical team & factories to interpret - Use knowledge of manufacturing processes and raw materials to develop samples effectively and to cost - Visit suppliers and factories to develop samples - Liaise with overseas offices & manufacturers to achieve successful results, making revisions where necessary to suit processes available

FINANCIAL; - Monitor individual & dept sample & travel budget to keep in line with company policy - Work with Technical & Sourcing to ensure that sample meet target costs whilst still meeting design requirements - Monitor sample quantity to avoid over / duplicate sampling - Ensure samples developed to meet critical path

PEOPLE

Coaching & developing - Maximising potential of team members - Identify skill & behavioural gaps, coach & support improvement - Provide constructive feedback - Lead by example

Communication

Ensure effective internal (team, cross function, upwards) & external (suppliers) communication
