Julia Conway

Your Department: International

Your role: International Operations Manager

How long have you been at Mothercare? Since July 2006

What career opportunities or progression have you enjoyed at Mothercare?

Returning to the UK after 18 months backpacking the world I joined Mothercare on a six-month maternity cover contract in Store Communications. As that contract came to an end I saw a vacancy advertised internally for 'International Operations Manager', which I applied for and, after 2 interviews and some tests, I was given the job!

What is it like to work in your store/department?

There is lots to learn but with plenty of support from the friendly, welcoming and social team.

What training / development have you had?

Initially I completed the 'Building Blocks' training programme which helped me learn all about the company, the different functions and people. When I joined 'International' I had a 4 week departmental training programme which involved spending time with key contacts and store visits learning about layouts and products. I am now working together with our Franchise partners in Spain, Malta, Belgium, Gibraltar & Pakistan to drive sales, service & store development.

Why would you recommend Mothercare as an employer to others?

Mothercare were not put off by the fact that I had been travelling when they offered me a job, and I get the chance to travel in my new role - perfect! They also like to promote internally - as proven by me!
